iPod Touch 5th Generation Review (2012)

The iPod touch 5th generation has been announced and tested and I now have a review for you!

Firstly, I will talk about the design: The device itself weighs just 88 grams and is a cool 6.1 mm thick. It feels so nice in the hand and the attention to detail is evident. It features a more squared up design much like te 1st gen. touch as oppose to the teardrop on the previous model. It comes in 6 colors: Blue, pink, red, grey and green which all sport the white front while the black model has a black front.

Features:

Display
The iPod touch 5G has a beautiful retina display on a brand new 4″ canvas. Its the same display as that on the iPhone 5. Stunning graphics with 326 ppi. its arguably the best display on a mobile device with rich text and sweet colours.

Processor
Another feature is the upgraded processor. This iPod now features a dual core A5 chip, the same that powered the iPhone 4S. It makes tasks so much easier with quicker multitasking and much better performance than the A4. You will also see better gaming performance by up to 9X the previous generation which is important for a gaming device.
Cameras
This iPod features a 5MP isight camera out the back with flash and a 1.2 MP out the front. The rear camera takes pretty nice photos, and so much better than the 4th gens 0.7 MP camera. This camera has a 5-element lens with advanced optics. Although it favours good lighting condition, it didnt fare too bad in a darker setting. It can also shoot 1080P HD video at 30 FPS. The front camera, which is optimized for Facetime is now HD 720P video as well. This is a substantial upgrade from the VGA quality on the 4th generation. iPhoto can be used to edit photos as well.
iOS 6
This device runs Apple’s greatest new version of iOS. One new feature to the 5G is that it now supports Siri assistant and dictation. This a great addition to the device and performs great with the A5. Other new features include Apple’s vector based maps with 3D flyovers. Although the potential is great, there are many problems with them right now such as poor accuracy and incorrect data. Apple appologized and is working to fix. Do not disturb mode is a nice feature which allows you to silence notifications between certain times. Apple could have done much more such as customization, however they opted to leave it. In general, it runs very smooth on this iPod and is a solid update.

Price

In North America, the 32 GB model comes in at $299.99 and the 64 GB model comes in at $399.99.

My thoughts: The iPod touch 5th generation is a really nice device. It is by far the best iPod ever with a beautiful retina display on the 4″ screen. The cameras are great and performance is very snappy, on par with the iPod touch. If you want an iPhone but cant afford it or just a powerful media player, the iPod touch 5th gen. is a great choice!

Note: Higher quality pictures will be posted at a later date.
